3/13/87 UNIT 3 DIESEL GENERATOR "B" TEST INSPECTIONS 1.0 COOPER ENERGY Initial Test:,

1.1. Web deflection measurements will be verified and recorded prior to the initial start.

1.2 On the initial start DGB will be operated for approximately 1'5 minutes, at no load. Continuous observation of engine oper-ating perameters vill be monitored, (i.e. temp, pressure,. speed 8 vibration).

1.3 After the initial run all crankcase doors will be removed and the following performed:

1.3.1 All bearing caps (main and rod) will be inspected for unusual hot spots.

1.3 ' Visual inspection for signs of water leaks.

1.3.3 Hand check chains, and tighteners.

1.3.4 General inspection of all exposed components for any signs of stress.

1.3.5 If all inspections are satisfactory, DGB will be made ready for- break-in.

1.4 Break-in will require an initial 2 hour2.314815e-5 days <br />5.555556e-4 hours <br />3.306878e-6 weeks <br />7.61e-7 months <br /> no load run followed by loading in 25X increments thru lOOX. A 2 hour2.314815e-5 days <br />5.555556e-4 hours <br />3.306878e-6 weeks <br />7.61e-7 months <br /> time period will be imposed at each level of load before proceding to the next level. All engine operating parameters will be in contin-uous observation, recorded on an hourly bases.

1.5, Interm inspection after 'break-in loading.

1.5.1 Check for external leaks. and distress.

1.5.2 After 30 mins. following shutdown remove crankcase doors and immediately check the crankshaft web deflection per C-B manual.

1.5.3 Visually check inside of crankcase for abnormal-ities.

'1.5.4 Review logs for abnormalities. If all are ok replace crankcase doors.

1.5.5 Start and gradually increase .load to lOOX over a two hour period.

1.5.6 Increase Load to llOX and hold for two hours.

F 2.0 73PE-3DG01, (Preoperational carry over. test) 2.1 During performance of this preoperational carry over test, DGB will be tested to those test objectives required to re-establish engine. control and alarm functions.

2.2 The special precautions section, delineates safety and equipment concerns as follows:

2.2.1 Should communications be lost when operating equip-ment the test shall be stopped until such time as reliable communications can be re-established.

2.2.2'rior to oper'ating any component, ensure that the component is clear of obstructions and debris.

2.2.3 In the Emergency Run Mode, only 3 of 19 shutdowns will trip the engine. All others will actuate an alarm and light. The three shutdowns that are valid during and Emergency Run are as'. follows:

(1) Engine Overspeed (2) Low Engine Lube Oil Pressure (3) Generator Differential 2.2.4 If a Diesel Generator Emergency Stop is necessary, the" Emergency Stop Pushbutton must be pushed'.

2'.2.9 'Anytime the Emergency Diesel Generators are in oper-ation, proper ear:protection shall be worn.

2.2.10 Every person working in the Diesel Generator Rooms shall be aware that the units may start unannounced, at any time and develop 4.16 KV.

2.2.11 Do not remove engine crankcase inspection doors until at least 15 minutes after shutdown.

2.2.12 Galvanized metal buckets or containers should never be used to contain or add lube oil due to zinc contamina-tion.

2.2.13 Do not transfer voltage regulator control mode while Diesel Generator is running. This would cause a current surge which would damage "extremely sensitive" equipment.

When the engine is started in the Emergency Run'ode, speed and voltage are maintained automatically. Raise and lower switches will have no effect on engine speed or voltage.

2.2.14 No provisions are made for synchronizing from the local station. Therefore, the Diesel Generator Output Breaker must be closed only on a dead bus while in the Local Mode.

2.2.15 The Emergency Diesel Generator is designed to supp?y 5500 KW continuously but can supply 6050 KW for 2 hours2.314815e-5 days <br />5.555556e-4 hours <br />3.306878e-6 weeks <br />7.61e-7 months <br /> within any 24 hour2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> period.

2.2.16 Normal bus voltage limits are 3.74 KV to 4.37 KV.

2.2.17 Whenever the diesel generators are place in STANDBY, the droop switch must be in the ISOCHRONOUS position.

2.2.18 Manual Control of the Diesel Generator Engine speed is limited to the range of 570 rpm to 618 rpm.

2.2.19 Air Dryers must have power supply breakers shut 2 to 4 hours4.62963e-5 days <br />0.00111 hours <br />6.613757e-6 weeks <br />1.522e-6 months <br /> before starting to insure proper dehydration of starting air. This allows dryers to cool, minimizing the amount of moisture entering the receiver.

2.2.20 When shutting down a hot engine, allow standby lube oil pump to run for a minimum of 30 minutes at approximately 7 PSI to dissipate heat that soaks to the turbine bearings from the turbine blade and disc in the turbocharger.

2.2.21 Turbocharger oil pressure at inlet shall be 5 PSI minimum within 10 seconds after the turbocharger is started and above 35 PSI during normal operation. If oil pressure is low, stop engine and determine cause.

2.2.22 Immediately stop the diesel if any of the following condi-tions occur during the test:

(1) Lube Oil Pressure drops to 30 PSI (2) Lube Oil Temperature increases to 185 Degrees F (3) Engine Speed exceeds 660 RPM (4) Jacket Water Temperature increases to 206 Degress F (5) Jacket Water Pressure decreases to 6 PSX (6) Turbo Oil Pressure decreases to 30 PSI 2.2.23 The maximum cooling water temperature differential for the turbocharger is 12 degrees F.

2.2.24 The maximum bearing oil temperature differential for the turbocharger is 30 degrees F.

2.2.25 The maximum inlet oil pressure for the turbocharger is 40 PSI.

2.2.26 The maximum turbocharger cooling water outlet temperature is 190 degrees F.

2.2.27 The maximum differential for the lube oil filter is 25 PSI.

Elements must be replaced at 20 PSI.

2.2.28 Maximum exhaust temperature ahead of the turbocharger is 1200'F.

2.2.29 Maximum exhaust temperature limitation for the Diesel Generator cylinders is 1150'F.

2.2.30 Operation of the Emergency Diesel Generator at'loads less than 25X (1375 KW) should be minimized.

2.2.31 Ensure the coupling and belt guards are installed at all times when operating the various equipment in this procedure.

2.2.32 Notify the Shift Supervisor of the intention to commence, stop or restart testing.

2.2.33 Fuel control is pneumatically non fail safe. For maintenance "control air right bank, and left bank" (V550 and V551 Train A) and (V650 and V651 Train B) must be left "ON".

2.2.34 If during the performance of this procedure any evidence of arcing, unusual noise, excessive vibration or other unusua occurrences exist, terminate testing immediately and determim the cause prior to resuming testing.

2.2.35 Prior to operating the Diesel Generator in the TEST mode, the Essential Spray Pond Pump must be operational to provide cooling water for the engine.

2.2.36 When lifting wires in the performance of this procedure prope>

care should be exercised to prevent coming in contact with the 125 VDC control voltage present.

2.2.37 Systems are to be operated in accordance with the APS operating procedures when specific direction is not provided by this test procedure.

2-2.38 Deviations from the test procedure must be approved and documented.

2.2.39 At times during the ALARM verification sections of this procedure, various ALARMS may also be received. Verify only the specific annunciations related to the applicable step.

2.2.40 Control relay status (i.e. pick up/drop out) shall be verifie<

using a digital or analog multimeter on dry contacts, if possible.

3.0 73PE-3PE01, (Preoperational Carryover Test) 3.1 During performance of this preoperational carryover test, DGB will be subjected to about 66.5 hours5.787037e-5 days <br />0.00139 hours <br />8.267196e-6 weeks <br />1.9025e-6 months <br /> of verious load configureations, ranging from 25X to llOX load. This test will complete those testing requirements that were not satisfied by 93PE-3PE01.

3.2 The special precautions section set forth in 73PE-3PE01 provides the following:

3.2.1 Should communications be lost when operating equipment, the test shall be stopped until such time as reliable communica-tions can be reestablished.

3.2.2 Prior to operating any component, ensure that the component is clear of obstructions and debris.

3.2.3 In the Emergency Run mode, only 3 of 19 shutdowns will stop the engine. All others. will actuate an alarm and light.

The three shutdowns that are valid during an Emergency Run are as follows:

Do not operate Diesel Generator 9 6050 KW for more than 2 hours2.314815e-5 days <br />5.555556e-4 hours <br />3.306878e-6 weeks <br />7.61e-7 months <br /> in any 24 hour2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> period.

3.2.15 Normal bus boltage limits are 3.74 KV to 4.58 KV.

3.2.16 The Diesel Generators cannot be operated in parallel.

3.2.17 Manual control of the Diesel Generator Engine speed is limited to 580 to 630 rpm +.5', (557.1 to 582.9) and 626.9 to 633.2).

3.2.18 Air dryers must have power supply breakers closed 2 to 4 hours4.62963e-5 days <br />0.00111 hours <br />6.613757e-6 weeks <br />1.522e-6 months <br /> before starting to insure proper dehydration of starting air.

This allows dryers to cool, minimizing the amount of moisture entering the receiver.

3.2.19 When shutting down a hot engine, allow standby lube oil pump to run for a minimum of 30 minutes at approximately 7 psig to dissipate heat that transfers to the turbine bearings from the turbine blades.

3.2.19 Turbocharger oil pressure at inlet shall be 5 psig minimum within 10 seconds after turbocharger is started and 35 psig during normal operation. If oil pressure is low, stop engine and determine the cause.

3.2.20 Immediately stop the diesel if any of the following conditions occur during the test:

(1) Lube oil pressure drops to 30 psig.

(2) Lube oil temperature increases to 185'.

(3) Generator speed exceeds 660 rpm.

(4) Jacket water temperature increases to 206'F.

(5) Jacket water pressure decreases to 6 psig.

(6) Turbo oil pressure decreases to 30 psig.

3.2.21 The maximum cooling water temperature differential for the turbocharger is 12'F.

3.2.22 The maximum bearing oil temperature differential for the turbocharger is 30'F.

3.2.23 The maximum inlet oil pressure for the turbocharger is 40 psige 3.2.24 'The maximum turbocharger cooling water oulet temperature is 190'F.

3.2.25 The maximum differential for the lube oil filter is 25 psid.

Elements must be replaced at 20 psid.

3.2.26 Maximum temperature variation between engine cylinders is 75'F.

3.2.27 Maximum temperature limitations for Diesel Generator Cylinders 1150'F.

3.2.28 Operation time of the Emergency Diesel Generator at loads less than 25X (1375 KV) should be minimized.

3.2.29 Ensure the coupling and belt guards are installed at all times when operating the various equipment in this procedure.

3.2.30 Notify the shift supervisor of the intention to commence, stop, or restart testing.

3.2.31 The Fuel control is pneumatically non-failsafe. For maint-enance control air, non-failsafe V650 and V-651 for Train B must be left ON.

3.2.32 Cranking control air is failsafe. For maintenance control air, right bank and left bank and V642 must be turned OFF.

3.2.33 Maintain Diesel Engine room temperature at less than 120'F using the Essential Exhaust Fan.

3.2.34 To prevent accumulation of a Combustible Gaseous Atmosphere maintain the Day Tank Room Ventilation Fan in operation.

3.2.35 Prior to Diesel Generator operation verify the voltage regulator switches located in control room and Dj.esel Generator panels are positioned to Auto before transferring the LOCAL/

REMOTE control mode selector.

~>> ~ ' ~V 4.0 32ST-9PE01 (ELECTRICAL SURVEILLANCE TEST) 4.1 This surveillance test does not load DGB and has a short run time of about one half hour. No mechanical inspections are performed.

4.2 During test performance DGB is operated by "Operations Dept.

Guideline ¹49" where Logs are maintained and ENG/GEN Operational limits are monitored by Operations Procedure 43-0P-lDG02.

5.0 31ST-9DGOl {MECHANICAL SURVEILLANCE TEST)

S.l DGB surveillance testing will require an analizer run at the beginning and end of this test. Total run time will be approximately 10 hours1.157407e-4 days <br />0.00278 hours <br />1.653439e-5 weeks <br />3.805e-6 months <br />.

5.2 Operational limits of DGB will be maintained by Procedure 430P-1DG02 and "Operations Dept. Gudieline ¹49". Observations will be performed during engine runs to detect any malfunctions.
