In accordance with Appendix A, Beaver Valley Technica? Specifications, the following Special Report is submitted pursuant to Techuical Specification 3.7.14.1, Fire Suppression. This occurrence was reported to Mr. D. A. Beckman, the Beaver Valley NRC Resident Inspector, at 1510 hours0.0175 days <br />0.419 hours <br />0.0025 weeks <br />5.74555e-4 months <br /> on September 25, 1980.

At 1345 hours0.0156 days <br />0.374 hours <br />0.00222 weeks <br />5.117725e-4 months <br /> on September 25, 1980, the diesel-driven fire pump auto started. This was immediately followed by a phone call from the construction department informing the control room operators that a portion of the fire main yard loop had been dug up and a hole had been put in a section of the pipe by the back hoe operator. The affected section of the yard loop was quickly isolated and fire watchers were posted in the affected areas. By 1525 hours0.0177 days <br />0.424 hours <br />0.00252 weeks <br />5.802625e-4 months <br />, a temporary jumper hose had bee.n installed from the unaffected part of the yard loop to a portion of the loop which feeds varicus deluge and alarm check valves. At 0030 hours3.472222e-4 days <br />0.00833 hours <br />4.960317e-5 weeks <br />1.1415e-5 months <br /> on September 26, 1980, the damaged section of piping had been replaced and the Fire System was returned to service.

The fire pump remained in service throughout the event. The leak was quickly isolated and backup water was made available. The damaged pipe section has been repaired and the fire system is in full service. The health and safaty of the public was not affected by this event. This event is considered closed and since the system has been repaired and tested satisfactorily, there will be no 14-day followup report.
