'm DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPANY Beaver Valley Power Station Post Office Box 4 Shippingport, PA 15077 September 8, 1980 BVPS: JAW:962 Beaver Valley Power Station,' Unit No.1 Docket No. 50-334, Licanse No. DPR-66 LERs 80-062/01P, 80-063/01P Mr. B. H. Grier, Director of Regulation United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region 1 631 Park Avenue King of Pru.4sia, Pennsylvania 19406
Dear Mr. Grier:
In accordance with Appendix A, Beaver Valley Technical Specifications, LERs 80-062/OlP and 80-063/0lP, Technical Specification 6.9.1.8, Administrative Controls, are submitted. These occurrences were reported to Mr. J. Hegner, the Beaver Valley Resident Inspector, at 1145 hours0.0133 days
0.318 hours
0.00189 weeks
4.356725e-4 months
on September 8, 1980.
Evaluation and reanalysis required by IE Bulletin 79-14 have shown that the following piping and supports have less conservatism than assumed for the safety analysis and, therefore, require remedial action.
The first overstress condition has been found on the discharge line from the Boron Injection Tank (BIT). Loss of this line would constitute loss of the BIT during a seismic event. The BIT discharge would be isolable at any time.
Consequences of this event would be minimal'due to the. plant being in Operational Mode 5.
Modification of the' pipe support needed to alleviate this condition will be done prior to plant startup.
The second overstress condition has been found on the 1C Charging Pump discharge line. Loss of this line would constitute the loss of this pump during a seismic event. This line is isolable and.ti.ere are two (2) other redundant charging pumps. Therefore, there would be little consequence to this event.
Modification of the pipe support needed to alleviate this condition will also be done prior to plant startup.
Very truly ours, au)
