RBEXEC 690 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Gentlemen: l River Bend Station - Unit I Docket No. 50-458 As requested at the exit meeting for the Operational Safety Team Inspection (OSTI), enclosed is a copy of the latest revision to the River Bend Station Near Term Performance Improvement Plan (NTPIP). We have completed a number of the activities in the plan and have revised specific sections as we gained experience in implementing required performance improvements.

in addition, our interactions with the Operational Safety Team Inspection (OSTI) team provided us with additional insight into specific performance areas. This resulted in several additions to the NTPIP. The insight gained from the OSTI will also be included in _the Long Term Performance Improvement Plan (LTPIP). ,

Gulf States Utilities issued the River Bend NTPIP on November 1,1993. Our intent in preparing this plan was discussed with you during our meeting on October i2,1993. The plan was prepared for the purpose of directing the short-term actions necessary to improve station performance in a few key areas with the expectatior. that we would transition at the beginning of 1994 to a more comprehensive long-term plan. River Bend management developed the plan by evaluating past assessments performed at the station including NRC inspections, independent and t line-management assessments, and INPO evaluations. Input was also received from site personnel in various departments to ensure employee involvement. The results from these assessments were condensed into performance areas addressed by short-term strategies in the plan. We have also developed performance measures for use in evaluating the effectiveness of the plan.
