PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL-0CCURRENCE PN0-II-86-62 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verifi-4 cation or, evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region II staff on this date.

SUBJECT:

B0MB THREAT The Browns Ferry central alarm station received a telephoned bomb threat at 4:43 a.m. (EDT) today. The caller said: "This is a bomb threat. I'm going to blow you to hell."

In accordance with the plant emergency plan, TVA declared an unusual event and searched all buildings. No bomb was found, and the unusual event was terminated at 6:06 a.m. Security personnel, who believe the call was made from on site, are continuing their investigation.

All three units at Browns Ferry are shut down, and Units 1 and 2 are defueled.

The State- of Alabama, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Interagency Assessment Team have been informed.

TVA is responding to media inquiries.

TVA informed the NRC headquarters duty officer of the occurrence by telephone at 5:36 a.m.
