PRELIMINARY ll0TIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-78-29 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.
FACILITY: Tennessee Valley Authority Browns Ferry, Unit No. 3 Docket No. 50-296 Decatur, Alabama
SUBJECT:
ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FAIL ENVIRONMENTAL TESTS Bendix electrical connectors used in the Unit No. 3 containment failed steam environmental tests following an accelerated aging program. The failure occurred at the back of the connector where the conductors join These connectors passed the steam environment test the connector pins.
in November 1977 without the aging program.
The Physical Sciences connectors used on Units No. 1 and 2 successfully C
passed the test.
