CRACK INDICATIONS IN REACTOR WATER CLEANUP SYSTEM TVA has informed Region II that intergranular stress corrosion cracking has been detected
.on the inboard side'of. the ~ outboard isolation valve on the reactor water cleanup system.
Preliminary . indications show an axial crack three-quarters of an inch long and 50 percent through=the wall.
This ' crack was detected by inspections performed in accordance with Generic Letter 84 during the-current refueling outage of Browns Ferry Unit 2. Cracks have been found and corrected in this system on Unit 1 during the past three years. Unit I will be inspected further during its next refueling outage. Inspections performed during the current
- refueling outage on Unit 3 detected ~no indications in the reactor water cleanup system.
- Media ~ interest has not occurred. TVA does not plan a news release at this time, but is prepared to respond to inquiries. Region II does not plan a news release.
- Th1 State of Alabama has been informed.
The licensee notified the NRC headquarters duty officer of this occurrence by telephone at 5:06 p.m. (EST) yesterday.
