NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 - FINAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REVIEW (EPID NO. L-2020-SLR-0000)

By letters dated August 24, 2020, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Package Accession No. ML20246G703), February 4, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21035A303), March 17, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21076B025), March 25, 2021, (ADAMS Accession No. ML21084A182), April 1, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21091A186),
April 29, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21119A287), May 27, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21147A293), July 29, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21210A396), August 5, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21217A187), August 26, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21238A297), and December 6, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21341B437), Virginia Electric and Power Company (Dominion Energy or the applicant) submitted an application for the subsequent license renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-4 and NPF-7 for the North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2 (NAPS) to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Dominion Energy submitted the application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, for subsequent license renewal.
The NRC staff determined that the application was complete and acceptable for docketing on October 9, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20267A340), and noticed it in the Federal Register on October 15, 2021 (85 FR 65438).
The NRC staff has reviewed the NAPS Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) and has developed the enclosed Safety Evaluation Report Related to the Subsequent License Renewal of North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2 - Final Report, hereinafter referred to as the Safety Evaluation Report (SER). This SER reflects the status of the NRC staffs safety review of the SLRA, as supplemented, through December 6, 2021. Issuance of the enclosed SER is an important milestone for both the applicant and the NRC staff.
The next milestone for this project is the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards Full Committee meeting scheduled for February 1 - 4, 2022.
