Sussex, WI, 53089 Email: saschellin@gmail.com Phone: 262-246-6377 General Comment Point Beach is the cleanest and most eco-friendly source of reliable, non-polluting, 24 hr, 365 day source of economical electrical energy of any kind for the State of Wisconsin and midwest region. It provides high paying jobs and electricity at low rates. It uses a small land footprint and is an already constructed and operating event free for 50 years. It has been examined for its initial 20 year license renewal and found to be fully acceptable, entered that license extension period, and continues to fully meet or exceed all requirements. Nothing should change in a future extension, given the oversight and diligence of the plant staff, regulators, and supporting public in the local surrounding communities. The costs for the initial construction and continuing plant modifications to meet the continually changing environmental and NRC regulations, and upgrades in power have already been spent and are being amortized at some of the lowest rates for customers in the country. It provides reliable power to Wisconsin and the midwest regional grid consistently, without regard for the variability of both solar and wind driven sources of electricity. Concerns regarding vessel embrittlement are well know, tracked by samples, and studied extensively by knowledgeable academic and engineering personnel. It has been demonstrated that if the vessel approaches any fault threshold, it can be mitigated and the vessel life extended indefinitely by in-place annealing at a cost which is minimal compared to replacement of any similar, robust, 24 x 365 power production facility. The only reason that there is spent fuel residing on-site is governmental restrictions on reprocessing and reuse of an already mined and refined source of energy. Other nations have proven this fact. Demonizing nuclear power is irrational and driven by an wrong-educated bias based on narrowness of consideration of complementary energy sources and their usefulness to society versus and inclusiveness approach, where Best-Use sources of energy can all be utilized based on the needs, locations, resources, and global impacts.
