SUBJECT:

ISSUANCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING

SUMMARY

REPORT ASSOCIATED WITH THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFFS REVIEW OF THE POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (EPID NO. L-2020-SLE-0002) (DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301)

Dear Mr. Strope:

Pursuant to Section 51.29 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted the environmental scoping process and solicited public comments from February 1, 2021, to March 3, 2021. This process determined the scope of the staffs environmental review of the application for subsequent renewal of the renewed facility operating licenses for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Point Beach). The scoping process is the first step in the development of a Point Beach-specific supplement to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession Nos. ML13106A241, ML13106A242, and ML13106A244).

As part of the scoping process, the staff held a public environmental scoping meeting via webinar on February 17, 2021, to solicit public input regarding the scope of the environmental review. The staff also received written comments through www.regulations.gov. At the conclusion of the scoping process, the staff prepared the enclosed environmental scoping summary report identifying comments received during the scoping period. In accordance with 10 CFR 51.29(b), the staff will send a copy of the scoping summary report to each participant in the scoping process.

The transcript of the public scoping meeting is publicly available online in the ADAMS Public Documents collection at https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html under Accession No. ML21062A192. To begin the search, select Begin Web-based ADAMS Search. For problems with ADAMS, please contact the NRCs Public Document Room (PDR) reference staff at 1-800-397-4209, 301-415-4737, or by e-mail to pdr.resource@nrc.gov.

M. Strope If you have any questions concerning the staffs environmental review of this subsequent license renewal application, please contact the project manager, Ms. Phyllis Clark, by telephone at 301-415-6447 or via e-mail at Phyllis.Clark@nrc.gov.
