I believe Wisconsin's largest source of emission free electricity should be allowed to continue to operate.

We need to keep Point Beach running as long as possible, and start planning for replacing with newer generation of nuclear power plants. We are running out of time to curtail our emissions, and nothing beats Nuclear for baseload energy supply efficiency. The political climate in Wisconsin makes me doubtful that there would any effective effort to completely replace the energy produced at Point Beach with renewables. Most likely it would be replaced with more natural gas, which will not help meet our emission goals.

The fearmongering about massive amounts of radioactive waste are based on pseudo-science and not hard data. Compared to even renewables the waste produced per gigawatt is negligible. Wisconsin is uniquely suited for nuclear as we lack any major natural disaster threats, and no threat to fresh water supply in the foreseeable future.

To keep Wisconsin from falling back into increased usage of natural gas and coal (and destructive hydro/biomass) we need to keep these plants running, or replaced with newer designs, in the decades to come.
