Point Beach 1&2 should have a renewal license ONLY after a thorough and complete examination of all plant systems, especially the reactor vessel neutron shield and vessel environment, prior to approval. If the plant can compete with gas to generate electricity, in NE Wisconsin, it does not make economic sense to abandon a plant in good working order such as was done with Kewaunee. The plant does NOT compete with solar or wind (peaking only} and this is especially important as a base load plant to power the anticipated power needed for electric vehicles. The waste is a non-problem since coal plants put out much more radiation per megawatt and it is dispersed to the public and is not contained, checked, fenced and guarded. The plant has been a good environmental steward and has had no significant spills, water pollution or leakage,. It is located near an area of low population density near a source of very cold water.

Local milk, cheese, grass and trees are all checked frequently and the local population has no alternative to the emergency warning system.,It employs many people (not as many as the plant docs say} but more than the Kewaunee plant, Hamilton, Farberware or any of the other plants that have moved South or to China..All IT systems, sub-stations and phone lines should be reviewed against terrorism and security should be reviewed as part of the renewal As a local,I approve of the plant as long as it is operated in a safe, efficient manner, and continues to supply NE Wisconsin with low carbon, base-load power., absent from coal, oil or gas even when there is no railroad, little wind and no sunshine and little presence on the landscape.
