CAPE CANAVERAL, FL, 32920 Email: tjjessessky@gmail.com Phone: 920-794-4117 General Comment As a homeowner within 5 miles of Point Beach Nuclear Plant, as a former employee at the plant (both engineer and NRC licensed Senior Reactor Operator as well as an Operations Shift Manager), and as a private citizen interested in slowing the impact of man made climate change, I wholeheartedly and without any hesitation whatsoever, support the 20 year life extension proposal for Point Beach Nuclear Plant.

I spent 27 years at the plant and worked in both engineering functions as well as operations and led one of the operating crews at Point Beach Nuclear Plant for many years. In my unique role, I was involved in many of the upgrades to the plant over the years - I can say that the investment made by Next Era Energy has been not only impressive, but also comprehensive and the money spent on improvements have made the plant safer over the years. Lessons learned from major events (such as Fukushima) have been incorporated with both equipment improvements as well as operating procedures to anticipate and be ready for such an event. This clearly shows the commitment that there is to ensuring a safe operating power generation facility.

As a licensed Senior Reactor Operator from the year 2000 until 2016 (retirement), and as a shift manager from 2004 to 2016 I am very familiar with the operational philosophy as well as the training philosophy and requirements. I can say with first hand knowledge that the processes and procedures that were used and trained on reduce any risk or concerns to the general public and my neighbors - an opinion I shared with my neighbors when any concerns were voiced. I still maintain our now seasonal home within 5 miles of the plant (primary residence is now in Florida).

As a grandfather of 4 (soon to be 5) grandchildren I am particularly concerned with global warming and the environmental impact of carbon generating power plants (coal, oil, gas). I see the closure of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant as a major mistake and would hate to see the closure of a clean, efficient, incredibly well maintained, and safe generator of electrical power in the state of Wisconsin. I strongly support the license renewal proposal for the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant.
