FACILITY CLEARANCE FOR THE GE-HITACHI GLOBAL LASER ENRICHMENT FACILITY (ENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER: L-2020-DTP-0000)
Dear Mr. Owens:
By letter dated January 5, 2021, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System
[ADAMS] Accession Number ML20293A175) the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) terminated Special Nuclear Materials License SNM-2019 for the GE-Hitachi Global Laser Enrichment (GLE) Facility.
This letter is being issued to provide clarification with respect to the facility clearance (FCL) associated with SNM-2019. The January 5, 2021 letter terminating the SNM-2019 license did not terminate the FCL associated with that license notwithstanding the language in the Safety Evaluation Report supporting the license termination. The FCL granted to GLE in 2011 is still in effect. GLE is still required to comply with its Standard Practice Procedures Plan previously approved on April 9, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No, ML18095A729). This FCL will remain in effect until such time that the sale of GLE to the new ownership group is complete.
In accordance with 10 CFR Section 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of the NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
