SUBJECT:

GLOBAL LASER ENRICHMENT - APPROVAL OF DISPOSAL FOR CERTAIN CLASSIFIED MATTER (ENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFIER L-2021-SPR-0002)

Dear Pat Jenny:

On November 9, 2022, Global Laser Enrichment (GLE) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a letter entitled, Request for Approval of Disposal Method of Classified Matter, (GLE-2022-0061) (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession No. ML22353A590). The letter provides GLEs plans for disposal of certain classified matter and requests the NRCs approval to proceed. By letter dated January 25, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) submitted a classified letter to the NRC confirming completion of the review plan for disposal of sensitive matter. Based on the review, the DOE identified additional conditions necessary to ensure protection of classified matter. The DOE letter confirmed that the GLE disposal plan, with the required modifications, is acceptable for protection of the classified matter. The NRC staff has reviewed GLEs disposal plan with the additional conditions provided by DOE and finds it acceptable.

The NRC staff approves GLE to move forward with the disposal of the classified matter consistent with the plan and the additional conditions provided by DOE.
