The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Subject:

RELEASE OF UNNEUTRALIZED WATER Approximately 300 gallons of unneutralized water was released to the discharge canal at 9:45 p.m., on April 6,1978. The pH of the discharge canal was greater than 8.5 for one hour with a peak pH of 9.4 to 9.5.

The unneutralized water resulted from the overflow of a caustic tank which was being filled. The overflow, which collected in a sump, was automatically pumped to the waste neutralization tank whic,h was being discharged at the time. The discharge canal pH limits are 6.b-8.5. ,
