FAILURE OF TERMINAL BLOCKS INSIDE OF PROTECTIVE BOXES DURING ENVIRONMENTAL-QUALIFICATION TESTING The licensee reported a failure of three different vendors' terminal blocks (GE, Kulka, and Westinghouse) during LOCA environmental testing at the Franklin Institute Research Laboratories. One GE terminal block mounted inside a steel box performed satisfactory. The licensee is planning a shutdown late on March 23 to replace the presently installed aluminum boxes that failed to qualify during the Franklin Institute tests with the steel. boxes that were qualified.
NRR is conducting a meeting with the licensee on this matter today. -
