'b PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION May 9,1978 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE -- PNO-78-105 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

Subject:
EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR LOADING The licensee has determined that in event of a LOCA coincident with loss of offsite power and failure of one diesel generator to start, the connected load (3300 KW) on the remaining diesel generator would exceed the long term load rating (2850 KW) of the generator.
The licensee is discussing corrective actions with NRR.
Media interest is expected because of attention given to nuclear plants in Connecticut.
The State of Connecticut has been informbd.' A press release is planned by the licensee.
