UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE A construction fire involving wooden scaffolding and electrical cable insulations ' occurred in the temporary building surrounding the reactor vessel in the fabrication area at approximately 4:00 p.m. on 11/22/75.

The local fire department responded but was not used. The partially f abricated reactor vessel (bottom head plus five rings), was undergoing final heat treatment of the top three circumferential welds at the a

time of the occurrance. No rapid cooldown was allowed and temperature

.~ data was recorded except for a short time. This data is being evalu-ated by the. licensee and his contractors.

An inspector was on site to review the incident on 11/24/75 and will return to follow the licensee's evaluation.

i No radioactive releases were involved.

Local newspapers have carried the story. The State of Pennsylvania is being kept informed. A press release is not planned.  !

OIE received notification of this occurrence by telephone from l Philadelphia Electric QA Manager at 2:30 p.m. on 11/23/75 and supplemented at 11:40 a.m. on 11/24/75.
