Dear Mr. Haberthy:

1 I am responding to your May 8,1997, letter expressing an interest in meeting with NRC l ctaff. You requested a meeting with the NRC physical security inspection team leader and, if possible, with me at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PORTS) site during the l physical security inspection planned for the week of May 19-23, 1997, to discuss NRC and l PORTS physical security issues, and to become familiar with the NRC's applicable regulatory requirements. Please note that this inspection has indefinitely been postponed. You also I requested a meeting with Ms. Elizabeth O. Ten Eyck and me in Washington, D.C.

1 Unfortunately, NRC's inspections of the gaseous diffusion plants are performed on a very tight schedule. Therefore, it may not be possible for the NRC inspection team leader to set aside time to meet with you while the inspection is being conducted at the PORTS site. l However, I will be at the PORTS site on June 11,1997, to attend a meeting scheduled to j last from 12:00 noon to about 5:00 pm. I will be happy to meet with you either before or l after the meeting. Also, at a mutually acceptable date and time, members of the NRC I Division of Security staff, including the NRC physical security inspection team leader for l PORTS, Ms. Ten Eyck and I would be available to meet with you at NRC Headquarters in l Washington, D.C.
