{ CHARGING PUMP PREVENTATIVE January 25,1997 e MAINTENANCE APPENDIX A CHARGING PUMP ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE CHECKS l i

NOTE: The charging pump must he secured and isolatedprior to checking its accumulators a pressures.

  • CAUTIONa IF THE UNIT IS AT POWER, THE LETDOWN GAS STRIPPER IS OFF-LINE, AND THE CHARGING PUMP DRAINS ARE NOT DIRECTLY PIPED TO THE PERMANENT DRAIN CONTACT HP PRIOR TO ISOLATING AND DEPRESSURIZING THE CHARGING PUMP

, (PER HP 2.5.2).

NOTE: Ensure Nitrogen bottle rigs arefastened to mounting brackets in the storage location after use.

1.0 Verify the control switch in pullout.

2.0 Isolate and depressurize the charging pump piping as follows:

2.1 Shut the discharge to charging line isolation.

2.2 Shut the discharge to seal injection isolation.

2.3 Shut the suction isolation.

2.4 Shut the relief to VCT isolation valve.

i *CAUTIONa OPENING THE SUCTION AND/OR DISCHARGE DRAIN VALVES RAPIDLY CAN CAUSE "P" TUBING SEPARATION AND PERSONNEL CONTAMINATION.

3.0 Open the discharge first off drain valve.

4.0 - Slowly open the discharge second of drain valve.

5.0 Slowly open the suction drain valve.

6.1 Remove the guard and cap from the accumulator bladder gas valve.

aCAUTIONa DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN FITTINGS ON THE ACCUMULATOR BLADDER VALVES. WHEN CONNECTING THE SWIVEL ,

CONNECTOR OF THE HOSE ASSEMBLY, HAND TIGHTEN  !

SUFFICIENTLY TO COMPRESS GASKET AND IN SWIVEL I CONNECTOR IN ORDER TO PREVENT GAS LEAKAGE. (DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN FITTINGS.)

6.2 Attach the charging gauge assembly to the accumulator gas valve. Ensure that the tee l handle on the assembly is backed-off to prevent depressing the accumulator bladder needle valve. Hand tighten sufficiently to compress gasket in swivel connector in order to prevent gas leakage. (Do not over tighten fitting.) ,

1 NOTE: Discharge accumulator nitrogen pre-charge pressure should be between 1150 and 1250psig.  !

6.3 Check the nitrogen pre-charge pressure by turning the tee handle inward to depress the accumulator bladder needle valve. Record the as found pressure on PBF-2109.

6.4 Recharge the accumulator as necessary. Record as -left pressure on PBF-2109, if required.

6.5 Remove the charging assembly and reinstall the guard and cap onto the accumulator 4

bladder gas valve.

7.0 Check Charge the Suction Accumulators.

I 7.1 Remove the guard and cap from the accumulator gas valve.

7.2 Remove the plug and 0-ring which seal the Schroeder valve.

7.3 Install the Schroeder valve brass extension.

7.4 Ensure the "T" handle on the low pressure charging gauge assembly is backed off fully. l l

7.5 Install the low pressure charging gauge assembly onto the brass extension.

NOTE: Suction accumulator nitrogen pre-chargepressure should be between 20 and 22 psig.

7.6 Check nitrogen precharge pressure by turning the "T" handle inward to depress the bladder needle valve. Record the as-found pressure on PBF-2109, if required.

7.7 Recharge the accumulator as necessary. Record as - left pressure on PBF-2109.

7.8 Remove the charging gauge assembly and Schroeder valve brass extension.

7.9 Reinstall the seal plug and 0-ring. Tighten 1/2 turn after seat contact.

7.10 Replace the accumulator valve guards.

aCAUTIONa ENSURE THAT THE CHARGING PUMP DISCHARGE VALVES ARE SHUT BEFORE SHUTTING THE SUCTION VALVE AND THAT THE SUCTION VALVE IS OPENED BEFORE OPENING DISCHARGE VALVES.

8.0 Return the charging pump to service as follows:

NOTE: Notify the Control Room that the charging pump will be valved in and a lab seal D/P alarm or sealinjectionfilter D/P alarm may come in. ,

8.1 Shut the suction drain valve.  !

8.2 Shut the discharge first and second off drain valves.

8.3 Lock open the relief to VCT isolation valve.

NOTE: The vari-drive disc bushings zircfittings are on the west end of the upper shaft and the east end of the lower shaft, labeled #6 and # 7 on Appendit C There is a black plastic cap on the zire which corresponds to the black color ofAmoco Molylith #2.

9.1 Verify that the pump control switch is in pullout.

9.2 Pump 5 pumps of Amoco Molylith #2 grease into the vari-disc bushings. Grease the bushings on both the upper and lower shafts. Document on PBF-2109.  ;

NOTE: Each pump should be runfor approximately 5 minutes minimum to ensure thepump is operational (ie., nitrogen has not entered thepump).  ;

10.0 Start the pump to ensure pump operation.
