AFFIDAVIT OF PATTY MIRIELLO Patty hiriello, being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says the following:

1. My name is Patty Miriello. My address is Post Office Box 26071, Raleigh, North Carolina 27611. I was employed by Nuclear Energy Services, Danbury, Conn. , and worked at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant from April 1984 through August 1985. I was an engineer in in-service inspection which is involved in inspecting all safety-related piping welds and other components. Prior to that I was an engineer with a DOE contractor, EGEG of Idaho, and worked at Three Mile Island in accident investigation and data analysis. I have an M.S. in Ceramic Science through a nuclear waste management traineeship with DOE. I am currently finishing my M.S.

in Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University.

2. The purpose of this affidavit is to describe some of the drug abuse that I observed at the Shearon Harris construction site while working there.

3. Conam Inspection of Richmond, CA, provides eddy current inspection personnel sad eddy current data analyst personnel to obtain and analyze steam generator tubing at a large number of the nation's operating and construciton stage nuclear plants. Steam gnerator tubing contains the primary reactor coolant which circulates in a lo po continuously from core to the steam generator.

Eddy current inpsection is a means of finding any cracks or other indications in the tubing which may eventually lead to rupture. If enough primary coolant is lost in this way the core may become uncovered and reactor control may be lost. This is the type of problem operators are trained to handle; but the operators may not be able to handle deviations from this basic problem.

4. Eddy current data at Harris has been obtained by Conam personnel I have seen deal or use cocaine. These people were involved in inspection / analysis of the steam generators. In October or November 1984, Conam did eddy current work at the VC Summer Nuclear Plant near Columbia, South Carolina, operated by South Carolina Gas & Electric. One quarter to half a pound of marijuana was said by John Camburn of Conam to have been brought into the plant in an equipment case or package which was opened on-site in a Conam data analysis . The drugs had been flow to South Carolina from Richmond, California, Conam office. The person sending the drugs was alleged to be Richard Marlow, Jr. , vice president of Conam.
5. Persons employed in the Conam organization and alleged by John Camburn to be using drugs are John Funanich , !!r. Dugas (inspe ctor) ,

f Mr. Dobson (data analyst) , Mark Matheson (inspector) , and others .

l Page 3 All of the above worked at the Harris plant. I witnessed John Camburn purchase several grams of cocaine from Mel Matheson of Conam and then use it at the Mission Valley Inn in Raleigh.

6. In my opinion, drug abuse at the Harris plant is widespread throughout the Daniel Construction Company and Carolina Power &

Light. A tougher drug testing program is required. It is very doubtful any of the above-mentioned Conam personnel could pass a random urinalysis done on the site, s
