g j g Docket No 50-498 50-499 MEMORANDUM FOR: File W, C, Seidle, Chief, RC&ES Branch I'
THRU:
W. A. Crossman, Chief, Projects Section FROM:
H. S. Phillips, Resident Reactor Inspector, STP
SUBJECT:
TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH MS PEGGY BUCKHORN SEPTEMBER 5, 1980 AT 10:15 A.M.
'I told Ms. Buckhorn that I had made several attempts to call her on September 4, 1980, but was unable to reach her.
I informed Ms. Buckhor'n that I had been advised that the matter, that we had previously talked about, had been turned over to the Sheriff of Matagorda County on September 3, 1980 in the late afternoon.
It was too late to call j
her back about the decision that had been made.
I also told her that I had subsequently been contacted by the sheriff, who stated that he had been notified of the allegation, and he asked me to give a statement relative l
to any infomation that I had.
Ms. Buckhorn expressed surprise that she had been contacted by the sheriff, and wished it could have been handled by HL&P, B&R and the NRC.
b Ms. Buckhorn also stated in our conversation that the sheriff had asked
'i for the names of the persons who told her about the alleged accidental death of an illegal alien during a concrete placement.
She. inferred that I told the sheriff _that she had seven names.
I responded to this statement by saying, "No, I told the sheriff that Ms. Buckhorn had told me that she had "seven sources", not "seven persons". She agreed that she had said, "seven sources".
Ms..Buckhorn stated that she is not " anti-nuclear", but she is only dis-charging the responsibilities of her position in her organization which represents the rate payers.
l Ms. Buckhorn also stated that she thought that I had an exceedingly difficult j
job.
I responded that r.1y position is not " pro" or " con" nuclear, but one of regulating. My job is to see that regulations and requirements are met.
Ms. Buckhorn thanked me for calling and said she really did not think I would call her back as I had promised. End of conve ion.
