SUBJECT:

FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE

SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT ORDER

-

Pursuant to your memorandum of June 24, 1980, delineating responsibilities

of our respective offices in assuring proper resolution and follow up of

the publems at the South Texas Project, the following status report for

the period of June 16 to July 11, 1980, is provided:

Region IV net with members of }L&P and B&R on June 17 June 30 and

again on July 3,1980, to discuss pmgress of resolution of the Show

Cause Order items. Minutes of these meetings are attached.

An inspection was performed of activities at STP on June 23-26, 1980,

-ir. regard to Investigation Report No. 50-498/79-19; 50-499/79-19 findings

related to earthwork. A copy of the report 50-498/80-17; 50-499/80-17

will be forwarded upon issuance. The inspection team included a member

of the original investigative team, a RI member and a RIV menber, all

with soils expertise.

During their review of activities concerning the Show Cause Order items,

the licensee is identifying and reporting deficiencies as required by

50.55(e). To date, the licensee has identified and reported appmximately,

nine items which relate to the Order items. We discussed the handling of

those 50.55(e) itens in regard to the mporting of these in conjunction

with the Order items with your office on July 1,1980.

RIV is continuing to monitor progress in regard to the items of noncompliance

identified in Investigation Report No. 50-498/79-19; 50-499/79-19 with available

resources including both the region based inspectors and the msident inspector.
