Mr. Nunzio J. Palladino, Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Palladino,

It is indeed unfortunate that so much misinformation about nuclear energy is so prevalant in our great country. I would hope that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission might, through its Public Relations Department, try to establish that nuclear energy is a safe, viable form of energy and is needed by this country. I also encourage you to continue with the Clinch River Breeder Reactor complex because the bi-product from our present nuclear reactor system has much energy to utilize. It solves two basic problems--it reduces the waste products and the so-called waste facilities required. I think that the fear of plutonium has gone too far. We kill some 50,000 to 60,000 people with our automobiles each year and to my knowledge, presently we haven't hurt anyone with a nuclear reactor.

Cooperatively yours, STEELE WASECA COOPERATIVE ELECTRIC Cthc& &

Dear Mr. Palladino:

I recently toured the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant Project in the American Electric Energy Exhibit at the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. I was impressed by the exhibit, because it explained to the public, in easy to understand lan-guage, how the plant will work and the tremendous amount of time and technology needed to build such a project. I am a strong supporter of the project and I believe if this country is to survive into the next century and beyond, we must direct all our efforts toward development of the Breeder Reactor Pro-ject at Clinch River.

We support the timely completion of fast breeder base technology and subsequent development programs.

The time has come to put a stop to the delays that have plagued the breeder project. The U.S.S.R. and other countries have jumped years ahead of the United States, while we sit back l and argue. We support the early site preparation of Clinch l River and urge your attention to approval of each stage of the l

project until completed and Clinch River becomes commercial.

Yours tr ly, tl l Mickey Mi ler l Member Services Manager l

Chairman, Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 90555

Dear Dr. Palladino:

I request your support on the accelerated site preparation for the Clinch River Breeder Project. Britain, Japan, and the Soviet Union all have programs developing the breeder, all of -

which are more vigorous than ours. But the world leader in this area is France, with a program 15 years ahsad of ours. The French Super-Phenix breeder, now nearing completion, is the pro-totype of a full-scale commercial power-producing breeder, and has continued to receive the full support of the Socialist gov-ernment of Francois Mitternad.

While we dither and debate in this country, the French are building.

Let's implement the President's October 1981 Nuclear Policy Statement calling for the expeditious completion of the CRBRP to " ensure our preparedness for longer term power needs".
