FINAL REPORT FROM STANFORD RESEARCH INSTITUTE (SRI) ON CLINCH RIVER BREEDER REACTOR PLANT SCALE MODEL TESTS Enclosed is the SRI final report, " Static Tests of 1/20-Scale Models of the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Head in Support of the LMFBR Safety Program,"
dated December 1982. Submittal of this report was committed to in a December 9,1982, meeting with the staff.
This report documents the experimental information associated with static tests SM-7 and SM-8.
The calculations performed with a single-degree-of-freedom model that are documented in the report are preliminary in nature.
They are included to provide insight on the status of the head response as of December 1982. Conclusions inferred from these calculations, such as predictions of the dynamic response of the closure head to structural margins beyond the design base loads Snd the effect of the upper internal structure on the structural integrity of the closure head, are also prelim-inary in nature. A program for resolution of final head capability has been established and accepted by the staff as documented in the staff's Safety Evaluation Report, Appendix A.3.
