Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Sway Strut Paddle Clamped Rigid (#74)
Dear Mr. Keppler:
On July 2,1982, Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. H. Wescott of NRC Region III to report on a problem with sway strut paddle clamping being rigid at the Fenni 2 site.
This item involves the rigid clamping of sway struts. In a number of cases, a change was made in the strut used with Power Process manufactured pipe clamps. In sme cases, where a 350 strut is used with a SK1014 clamp, the sway strut is clamped rigid and does not allow movement.
Investigation reveals that two different configurations of pipe clamp SK1014 have been supplied by Power Piping with the identical number. One of these, presents the clamping problem which can result in overstress of the pipe support.
