Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Re: St. Lucie Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-389 Linear Indications in Reactor Coolant Pump Volute On June 10, 1981 Florida Power and Light Company informed your office, in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e), of a potential reportable item regarding linear indications found in St. Lucie Unit 2 reactor coolant pump 2A1 volute. Repair to the pump was successfully completed and a final report submitted to you on January 12, 1982.

During the period April 26 to 30,1982, while at the site investigating this item, Mr. B. Crowley of your office noted that the subject report did not address the other three reactor coolant pump volutes. Mr. Crowley stated that Florida Power and Light Company should file a supplemental report addressing the other three pumps and resolve the question as to whether the linear indications are a generic problem with reactor coolant pump volutes.

In a telephone conversation between Mr. Crowley and Florida Power and Light Company, we agreed to submit a supplemental report on this question by May 21, 1982. Our investigation into this matter has not yet been completed.

We expect this investigation will be completed shortly and we will provide the supplemental report to you by July 1,1982.

Very truly yours, 8 @
