Interim Report of 100R50.55(e) on Fisher Control Valves (#37)

Dear Mr. Keprier:

This additional interim report on the Fisher Control Valve problem has been prepared to provide you with the current status of this problem.

This item was originally reported to Mr. R. Knop of NBC Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assur-ance, on December 31, 1980. At that tine, it had been determined that there was a problem with Fisher Control valves at the Fermi 2 site.

Control valves were purchased frtxn Fisher Controls por Detroit Edison specifications. During the purchase of additional valves, Detroit Edison Design Engineering determined that cut-off frequencies had not been specified to assure that seismic design of the valves accounted for the Fermi 2 peak response frequency. It had been subsequently determined that a design deficiency existed.

Engineering review indicates that the specifications do not need to be changed. New valve actuators have been purchased with an anticipated delivery of late fall 1982. These new actuators, when installed will meet seismic requirements.

r Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be sent to you on or before August 19, 1982. If you have questions concern-ing this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance.

Very truly yours, f
