Main steam line code safety valve lifted below setpoint contrary to Technical Specification 3.7.1.1.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Mode 3 hot shutdown (0%)

Description of Occurrence:

While maintaining main steam header pressure at approximately one thousand pounds for turbine testing main steam line code safety valve MSV-35 lifted at less than the required setpoint. Maintenance was initiated and operability was restored at 0001 on December 23, 1981.

Designation of Apparent Cause:

The cause of this event is attributed to setpoint drift.

Analysis of Occurrence:

There was no effect upon the health or safety of the general public.

Corrective Action:

The valve lift setpoint was reset. No further corrective action is deemed necessary.

Failure Data:

This was the third occurrence for MSV-35, and this is the fifth event reported under this Specification.
