Dear Mr. Boyd:

Enclosed is the information requested in your letter dated April 22, 1977 concerning the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. 1 In-Service Inspection Program planned for compliance with 10CFR50.55a(g).

The information pertaining to the pump and valve test program was sub-mitted to you in a letter dated June 27, 1977.

The ASME Class I components have been addressed separately from the Class 2 and 3 components. The preoperational inspection performed at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. I which met the requirements of the 1971 edition of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI including the 1971 Wintar Addenda was limit 9d essentially to Class I components. The in-service inspection to be p rformed on these Class 1 components are described in Attachment D.

Specific Class 1 items for which we request waiver from the requirements of Section XI of the 1974 edition of the ASME Code are identified in Attachment E.

The ASME Class 2 and 3 components In-service Inspection program is presented in Attachments A, B and C to this letter. This information has been developed to provide the information suggested in Enclosure 1 to your April 2?., 1977 letter entitled, "NRC Staff Guidance for Compliance with certain Provisions of 10CFT.aG,55a(g) 'In-Service Inspection Require-ments'".

Attachment A describes tae weld inspection program and cor-responds to your Enclosure 1.

Attachmeat B identities the tests we have determined to be impractical and corresponds to Appendix B of your.

Attachment C contains the figures and tables which supple-ment Attachments A and B.

m We request, relief from the testing requirements identified in Table 2 of Attachment C and the testing requirements identified in Artachment E as provided in 10CFR50.55a(g)(5)(iii). Relief from any further code require-ments identified as the test program is implemented will be requested if and when they are identified. However, Edditions and changes to the present program which in no way compromises the code testing requirements will be implemented as needed without prior NRC notification.
