- RESENT TO INCLUDE AN ADDITIONAL TOPIC Date:

Tuesday, September 05, 2017 3:56:00 PM Official Use Only - Proprietary Information

Steve, Below is the list of environmental topics that would be beneficial to discuss during the pre-application meeting:

401 Water Quality Certification, waiver, or other determination to support subsequent license renewal Status of NPDES permit renewal Brief summary and current status (monitoring only, remediation, etc.) of any inadvertent releases of radionuclides to groundwater.

Aquatic or terrestrial ecology studies that have been performed since the initial license renewal, such as those that may have been performed to demonstrate compliance with other laws or regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act)

Federally listed species and critical habitats present, potential impacts on those species and habitats, and discussion of any relevant communications with the U.S.

Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) or National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) with an emphasis on any newly listed species since the initial license renewal Potential impacts on Essential Fish Habitat, including prey of Federally managed species, and discussion of any relevant communications with NMFS Historic or cultural resources discovered subsequent to initial license renewal within the area of potential effect, and the status of any associated communications with State Historic Preservation Offices or tribal nations Anticipated refurbishment activities Summary of communication with local public health officials regarding the likelihood of the plants thermal discharge to increase the amount or concentration of thermophilic organisms near the vicinity of the plant.

Please also include if the plant plans to use high burnup fuel or has used high burnup fuel as is mentioned in LaSalles ER and final SEIS (ML16238A029). Below is an excerpt from the final SEIS.

LSCS operates using low-enriched uranium dioxide fuel with enrichment not exceeding a nominal 5.0 percent by weight of uranium-235 and has been historically operated within a maximum analyzed fuel burnup rate of 62,000 megawatt-days per metric ton of uranium (MWd/MTU). In its ER, Exelon stated that, during some future fuel cycles, it FPL submitted the Subsequent License Renewal Application on January 30, 2018 (ADAMS Package Accession No. ML18037A812) therefore, it is no longer necessary to withhold as proprietary.

expects the peak fuel burnup rate to exceed 62,000 MWd/MTU in some part-length fuel rods.
