SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF FERMI 2 (TAC NO. MF4222)

Dear Mr. Polson:

By letter dated April 24, 2014, DTE Electric Company (DTE or the applicant), submitted a license renewal application (LRA) pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, to renew operating license NPF 43 for Fermi 2. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) determined that the LRA was complete and acceptable for docketing on June 18, 2014.

Since that time, the staff has reviewed the Fermi 2 LRA, performed site audits and inspections, issued requests for additional information (RAIs), reviewed the applicants responses to the staffs RAIs, developed a safety evaluation report (SER) with open items dated January 28, 2016, and subsequently met with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee on March 2, 2016. The staff has closed the open item and has developed the enclosed SER to document its findings associated with the safety review of the LRA and supporting documentation for Fermi 2.

This SER is scheduled to be discussed with the ACRS Full Committee on September 8, 2016.
