Re: Fw: Potential Draft RAI based on 2016 Annual Update Lynne, In response to the NRC's question, the change made affects only the Jacket Coolant Pumps. The change was made per ERE 45149, "Replacement of EDG 11, 12, 13 and 14 Standby Jacket Coolant Pump and Motor Assemblies." This Engineering change paper applies only to the Jacket Coolant Pumps. JC pumps on two of the four EDGs have been changed so far.

Potential Draft RAI based on 2016 Annual Update Lynne/Kevin, I have received the following question/clarification. We are available for a call today. Can you let me know your availability?

Regarding Fermi 2 LRA 2016 Annual Update, LRA change E (pages 1 thru 2):

Change E:

Skid-mounted pumps in the emergency diesel generator system (R30) were replaced.

The pump casing material was previously carbon steel. The new material is gray cast iron. Components in the R30 system are reviewed in LRA Table 3.3.2-10. There are existing line items for carbon steel pump casing, but not for gray cast iron pump casing.

LRA Table 3.3.2-10 is revised to add line items for gray cast iron pump casing and the corresponding text in LRA Section 3.3.2.1.10 is revised to add gray cast iron to the list of materials.

Response

The changes made to the AMR tables (Annual Update, page 18) suggest that only the jacket coolant (treated water) pump was replaced. Other skid-mounted pumps shown in UFSAR Figures 9.5-6, 9.5-7, and 9.5-11 include the air cooler coolant (raw water) pump, lube oil pumps, and fuel oil pumps. If other pumps were also replaced, then some may be exposed to raw water (int and/or ext), lube oil (int), and/or condensation (ext) and subject to loss of material like the existing carbon steel AMR line-items (LRA pages 3.3-149 thru 3.3-150). Clarification is needed to identify the specific pumps that were replaced and to provide reasoning as to why the other environments and corresponding aging effects that exist for carbon steel pump casings were not included for gray cast iron pump casings.

Thanks.
