2. Oyster Creek - EN 44993 - OFFSITE NOTIFICATION DUE TO POTENTIAL RELEASE OF TRITIUM The licensee notified the state of NJ after determining that water found in a Emergency Service Water (ESW) cable vault contained tritium at levels of 102,000 pCi/L. The licensee was replacing cabling for the ESW pumps when they discovered accumulated water in the cable vault. The water was pumped out into 35 drums (estimated to be about 2000 gallons) and sampled for gamma emitters and tritium. The licensee's on-site laboratory detected tritium at a concentration of 102,000 pCi/l. A sample has been sent to an outside lab to confirm the results. To-date, the licensee has found no indication that the water affected ground water in the vicinity or was released to the environment. Tritium had not been detected in recent ground water sampling in the vicinity. The licensee is actively engaged in efforts to determine the source of the tritiated water.
