Licensee Action on Previous Inspection Findings (Closed) Infraction (413, 414/80-17-02): Welding Materia 1' Control Duke Power Company letter of response dated September 26, 1980, has been reviewed and determined to be acceptable by Region II. The NRC inspector discussed the matter with the licensee's Senior QA Engineer and examined the corrective actions.
The inspector concluded that the licensee had determined the full extent of the subject noncompliance, performed the necessary follow-up actions to correct the conditions present and developed the necessary corrective actions to preclude recurrence of similar circum-stances. The corrective actions indicated in the letter of response have

The above welds were in progress when observed by the inspector. The inspector examined the welds and welding to determine whether procedure and i
code requirements were being met in areas which included weld identifica-tion / location, use of specified welding procedure, welder qualification, proper interpass temperature, use of specified weld material, proper inter-pass cleaning, weld appearance and checks on welding variables. At the areas for the above welds and at the welding material central issue station the inspector observed welding materials for proper storage, issue records, control and return.
i No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.
6.
Safety-Related Piping (Welding) - Observation of Work and Work Activities (Unit 1)
The inspector observed safety-related pipe welding outside the RCPB for compliance with FSAR commitments and regulatory requirements. The code applicable to this welding is ASME Secton III Class 2 and 3 (74S74). Welds observed included:
Weld No.
System Stage of Completion 1 BB 123-20 Steam Generator Fitup Blowdown Recycle 1 WL 1266-1 Liquid Waste Final Penetrant Exam Recycle The NRC inspector examined the fitup weld for proper identification, joint preparation and alignment, and QC inspection documentation. The inspector observed the weld being penetrant examined for proper surface condition, penetrant materials and developing.
No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.
