l The Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPC0) hereby submits the I enclosed shutdown system availability and fire protection evaluation for the j Haddam Neck Plant entitled, " Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company,10CFR50, Appendix R, Compliance Review," and " Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company, Fire Hazard Analysis." These documents delineate the Haddam Neck Plant's l- shutdown system availability in the event of a fire and fire area evaluations.
I In a letter dated August 25, 1986,(I) the NRC granted CYAPC0 a schedular
.!- exemption from 10CFR50.48. This exemption extended CYAPC0's commitment to
- ' comply with the requirements of 10CFR50, Appendix R, until start-up from the l Cycle 15 refueling outage. In responding to acnieve compliance with 10CFR50, '
j Appendix R, CYAPC0 is constructing a new switchgear building in order to resolve a number of Appendix R issues. This new building and associated new i equipment will be operational prior to start-up from the Cycle 15 outage. The
! enclosed Appendix R Compliance Review addresses CYAPCO's compliance to Appen-
! dix R, crediting the new switchgear building as of the start-up from Cycle 15.
The Fire Hazard Analysis provides a current evaluation of plant fire areas and will be revised to include the new switchgear building after the ISB9 refuel-
! ing outage. '
