, TOUR OF THE HADDAM NECK FACILITY AND NRC 1999 DECOMMISSIONING POWER REACTOR WORKSHOP

Dear Mr. Mellor:

I want to thank yo'u for accepting our request for a tour of your Haddam Neck facility during the aftemoon of October 14,1999.- This tour will contribute to our understanding of how decommissioning is implemented at your facility, and also help foster NRC regional and

- headquarters consistency in its regulatory oversight of decommissioning nuclear plants.

I also want to take this opportunity to invite you to be in attendance, as a member of the public, at our 1999 Decommissioning Power Reactor Workshop: The NRC Inspection Program at Decommissioning Power Reactors, on the evening of October 13, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel,

' Meriden' CT. Our initiative to conduct the workshop near the Haddam Neck plant is based on its central location relative to other decommissioning power reactors in the northeast United States and is not associated with our regulatory oversight of your facility.

Since our staff will be in the Meriden, CT, area for 2 days, I have enclosed our preliminary schedule of activities for your information. Please contact Mr. Paul Harris, Project Manager, at 301-415-1169 should you have any questions.

Sincerely, ,.
