Smoke Detectors in Control Room and Auxiliary Building Covered During Welding Activities AECM-83/0253 On March 19, 1983, several smoke detectors in the Control Room, zone 1-18, were covered to prevent actuation while welding activities were performed in the area. A fire watch was established as required by Technical Specification 3.3.7.9. The detectors were restored on April 2, 1983. Total time of the LCO was 14 days, 7 hours8.101852e-5 days <br />0.00194 hours <br />1.157407e-5 weeks <br />2.6635e-6 months <br />.

Similarly, on March 30, 1983, several smoke detectors in the Auxiliary Building corridors, elevation 139 feet, were covered during welding. A fire watch was established, as required by Technical Specification 3.3.7.9, until the detectors were restored to operability on April 15, 1983. Total time of the LCO was 14 days, 19.5 hours5.787037e-5 days <br />0.00139 hours <br />8.267196e-6 weeks <br />1.9025e-6 months <br />.

This is submitted as a Special Report pursuant to Technical Specification 6.9.2, since the 14 day time limit of the LCO was exceeded.
