Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 i License No. NPF-29 Inoperability of Fire Detection Instrumentation AECM-90/0138 On June 27, 1990, eleven Auxiliary Building smoke detectors located in Fire Zone 2-2 (Corridor 1A211) were removed from service to perform a Plant

' Service Water (PSW) design change. Plastic coverings were placed over the detectors to-prevent' alarms due to welding and grinding in the area. The-detectors.were declared inoperable at 0050 and a hourly firewatch was i established in the area as required by GGNS Technical Specification 3.3.7.9.

After completion of'PSW modifications, the detectors were restored to service. The detectors were declared operable at 1823 on July 20, 1990.

-This Special Report is being submitted pursuant to' Technical Specifications L 3.3.7.9 and 6.9.2.
