Smoke Detectors Covered During Welding Activities AECM-83/0252 On March 12, 1983, two smoke detectors in the Standby Gas Treatment filter train room, zone 2-19, were covered while welding activities were conducted. Similarly, on March 15, 1983, a smoke detector in the Auxiliary Building, zone 2-8, at elevation 166 feet was also covered.

The detectors were covered to prevent actuation due to welding. Fire watches were established in accordance with Technical Specification 3.3.7.9.

The detectors are expected to be restored to operability by May 15, 1983.

This is submitted as a Special Report pursuant to Technical Specification 6.9.2, since the 14 day LCO time limit was exceeded.
