Attention: Mr. J. P. O'Reilly, Regional Administrator

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-13 File 0260/L-835.0 Special Report 83-010/1 -

Update Report - Smoke Detectors Covered for Planned Maintenance Activities AECM-83/0335 This is an update to a previous report submitted on March 25, 1983. The event for which the report was submitted occurred beginning on February 9, 1983, when the smoke detectors listed on the attached page were covered to prevent continuous alarms while planned maintenance (grinding and welding) was being performed in those areas. Voluntary entry into the action statement of Technical Specification 3.3.7.9 was made. An hourly fire watch is being conducted until the maintenance tasks are completed.

In our previous report we inadvertently failed to list fire zone 2-4 as one of the affected zones. This additional zone is included in the list on l the attached page. As of June 7, 1983, only the fire detection instrumentatica in zones 2-4 and 2-18 remain impaired, all others have been restored to normal services. These two zones are expected to be restored by June 30, 1983.

Yours truly, JPM: sap Attachment
