In your letter, Illinois Power (IP) admitted that, in general, the violations occurred as L described in the inspection report. However, in Attachment A of your letter, you state that occur.one of the seven examples associated with the first violation cited in the NOV d

The contested example of the violation, example a(3), dealt with the failure to docu i- b'y signing for the applicable Job Step, that new actuator shafts met dimensional requirements after the final machining operation documented in the work package for modification of Feedwater check valve 1821-F032A.

E in Attachmeat A to your letter, you state that the applicable Job Step for documentation of conformance to the dimensional tolerances was signed on February 28,1997, after the

last machining of the actuator shafts was completed. The NRC concurs that the app

Job Step was signed on February 28,1997.

package documented re-machining of the actuator shafts on March 1,1997, but does not

!- contain' documentation that dimensional tolerances were maintained after t i- machining. During the course of the subject inspection, the inspectors discussed the re-

!~ machining activities of March 1,1997, with managers in your Maintenance Department.
