NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-461/99012(DRS)

Dear Mr. McElwain:
On June 11,1999, the NRC completed an inspection at your Clinton Nuclear Power Station.
- The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection. No cited violations of NRC
requirements were identified.
This inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to
!
radiation safety and chemistry and to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations
and with the conditions of your license. The inspection consisted of a selective examination of
procedures and representative records, observations of work in progress, and interviews with
personnel. Specifically, the inspection focused on the implementation of your chemistry
program, including the control of plant water chemistry parameters and the laboratory quality
control program. The inspection included a review of your staff's actions on previous inspection
findings in the areas of radiation protection and chemistry.
We observed effective implementation of the' chemistry program by your staff. During the
May 1999 startup, plant water chemistry was generally well maintained, and your staff took
actions to decrease chemical impurities that were present at levels above your administrative
limits. In addition, the chemistry staff properly implemented the chemistry quality control
,
program.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commissions regulations, a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
