Fire in Auxiliary Boiler Flue TVA notified the Region II office of the Office of Inspection and Enforcement by telephone that a fire developed in the discharge  :

pipe (flue) of one of the three auxiliary steam boilers, at 9:53 p.m.

CDT on September 18, 1975. The boilers are oil fired and'while adjusting the oil combustion (flow) controls, excessive oil accumul- "

ated in the flue and ignited. The pperator observed a glowing hot ,

y spot on the pipe and sounded the fire alarm. The boiler was shut 3

( down and the fire permitted to dissipate. An all clear was given at 10:05 p.m. CDT. A visual inspection revealed no damages. Smoke had been dissipated up the stack. The auxiliary boilers are not safety related systems. They are located outside containment and have separate stacks. TVA plans a press release. This notice is dispatched because of possible media interest.

OIE (Region II) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from TVA on September 19,1975 at 2:00 p.m.
