APPENDIX B NOTICE OF DEVIATION Gulf States Utilities Docket: 50-458/86-22

. River Bend Station License: NPF-47 Based on the results of cn NRC inspection conducted June 30 through July 3, 1986, a deviation of your final safety analysis report was identified. The

'devia' tion involved the solid radioactive waste system. In accordance with the "Genstal Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions,"

10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (1986), the deviation is listed below:

Section.11.4 of,the final safety analysis report describes the solid radioactive waste system, including a waste compactor, waste sludge tank and sample collection system, a flow path for all waste.through the waste sludge tank, and that samples are taken from the waste stream prior to delivery to the portable solidification system.

In deviation from the above, the licences: (1) has not installed a waste compactor or sample collection system, (2) does not process waste through the waste sludge tank system, and-(3) does not sample the waste stream-prior to delivery to the portable solidification system. (458/8322-02)

Gulf States Utilities is hereby requested to submit to this office, within 30 days of the date of this letter transmitting this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, including: (1) the reason for the deviation if admitted, (2) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved. (3) the corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further deviations, and (4) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good ~

cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending the response time.
