VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER C_QMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 BELIEF FROM AS.MEJECTION XI REQUIREMENTS In a February 24,1997 lett1r (Serial No.97-079), Virginia Electric and Power Company requested relief from ASME Section XI paragraph IWA 5250. This relief would permit continued Service Waior System operation for up to eighteen months from the date of discovery of each minor leak or indication of previous leakage attributed to microbiological influenced corrosion (MIC).

In a November 17,1997 telephone conference call with the NRC, the implementation of and documentation for the Service Water System MIC inspection and monitoring program (NDE 32) were discussed. The following summarizes the implementation requirements of Relief Request NDE-32:

. Upon discovery, each flaw detected will be documented in the corrective action system by deviation report.

. The guidance of GL 90-05 will be followed, as discussed in NDE-32, to evaluate each flaw. Augmented radiographic inspections will only be performed on a quarterly basis to monitor MIC in the Service Water System.

A minimum of ten (10) welds will be selected and examined each quarter for the augmented radiographic inspections.

. Documentation of the Service Water System inspection and monitoring program and repair of identified flaws in the Service Water System will be maintained onsue, available for inspector review, and in accordance with the quality records retention requirements.
