SUBJECT:

GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY LICENSING TOPICAL REPORT NECO-24083

" RECIRCULATION PUMP SHAFT SEAL LEAKAGE ANALYSIS"

Reference:

Letter W. D. Gilbert to R. S. Boyd dated November 9, 1976 Fifty copies of the subject report are being submitted in response to Item 1 on Table 1-3 of the 238 Nuclear Island GESSAR. This information is in accordance with our letter of Novemoer 9,1976 (reference) wherein we informed the Staff of our intention to provide a licensing topical report prior to the FDA stage to support our contention that the design of the recirculation pump is acceptacle without an automatic trip on loss component cooling water.

Since the matter covered by this topical report is an extension of the PDA review of GESSAR as documented in the reference letter anc since the GESSAR review was started prior to the effective date of tne new fee scnedule regulation, General Electric considers NE00-24083 exempt from any fee charges. Please advise if you do not agree with this position in order that General Electric can make alternative arrangements to include this information in the FDA submittal.

If you have any questions or C0mments regarding this matter, please contact Mr. S. W. Smith of my Staff at (408) 925-3358.

Very truly yours ,
