UNIO'N OF CONCERNED SCIENTISTS me ce.. .u.u,e..e. s.w. . s. > >oi . wa.hi... .. oc 2oose . <2o2> 2,e.seoo July 5, 1984 Mr. William Dircks Executive Director for Operations U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Connission Washington, DC 20555 .

Dear Mr. Dircks:

It is my understanding that all applicant-NRC meetings are to be publicly announced. However, for the last few months, it has been difficult to obtain scheduling information about GE-NRC meetings related to GESSAR II.

Typically, those meetings have not been publicly announced in a timely fashion. For example, a GE-NRC meeting held last week in San Jose was not announced in the PDR any sooner than two working days before the meeting.

I nave previously written to NRC's Executive Legal Director about tnis matter and have been assured that, if possible, all such GE-NRC meetings will be announced publicly ten days in advance. However, as last week's meeting indicates, such notification continues not to be provided.

It would seem adviseable that all sush applicant-NRC meetings be announced at least ten days in advance both by posting notices in the PDR and by including notices in the NRR meeting tapes. I would appreciate your taking all reasonable actions to ensure that such timely notification be provided by NRC for all future CE-NRC and other applicant-NRC meetings.

Sincerely,

~

Dear Mr. Diroks:

It is my understanding that all applicant-NRC meetings are to be publicly announced. Ibwever, for the last few months, it has been difficult to obtain scheduling information about E-NRC meetings related to ESSAR II.

Typically, those meetings have not been publicly announced in a timely fashion. For example, a E-NRC meeting held last week in San Jose was not announced . in the POR any sooner than two working days before the meeting.

I nave previously written to NRC's Executive Legal Director about tnis matter and have been assured that, if possible, all such GE-NRC meetings will be annomoed publicly ten days in advance. However, as last week's meeting indicates, such notification continues not to be provided.

It would seem adviseable that all such applicant-NRC meetings be announced at least ten days in advance both by posting notices in the PDR and by including notices in the NRR meeting tapes. I would appreciate your taking all reasonable actions to ensure that such timely notification be provided by NRC for all future E-NRC and other applicant-NRC meetings.
