ISSUANCE OF AMENDMENT N0. 2 TO FINAL DESIGN APPROVAL NO. FDA-1 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued the enclosed Amendment No. 2 to FDA-1, the Final Design Approval for General Electric Company's BWR/6 Nuclear Island Design (GESSAR II).
Issuance of Amendment No. 2 to FDA-1 represents the completion of the staff's and the ACRS's review of the GESSAR II l
application for the issues identified in paragraphs B.2 and B.3.b(1) of the i
Commission's " Policy Statement on Severe Reactor Accidents Regarding Future Designs and Existing Plants" (50 FR 32138). Amendment No. 2 also removes the i
constraints on issuing construction permits and operating licenses to applicants who reference the GESSAR II design. The effective date of this i
amendment is September 22, 1986, and will expire in five years on September 22, 1991 unless renewed by the staff.
